No Time to Harvest?
If you are leaving on holiday or just can’t find the time to harvest your row and bring it down to the Food Cupboard, call us and we will try to arrange a volunteer to come to your house and harvest the crop.
Background Information
The Nelson Food Cupboard provides free food for those in need.
We serve over 1000 customers every month. People are free to use the service as often as necessary and great efforts are made to make them feel as welcome as possible. Customers include low-income earners, government assistance recipients, homeless people, single parents, youth & senior citizens. Nearly a third of our customers include children or babies.
We offer customers non-perishable foods and at least 5 fresh produce items per visit, as well as meeting special dietary and family needs. We aim to source as much produce locally as possible. The Grow A Row Program is one way to achieve this goal.
Grow a Row began in Winnipeg in 1986 and since then has spread across the country to include over 100 communities. In 2005, 892,844 pounds of food was grown nation-wide for various food banks.
